Fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) is also known as GFRP, or fiber reinforced plastics, which is generally used to enhance unsaturated polyester, epoxy resin and phenolic resin matrix with glass fiber. It is reinforced plastic with glass fiber or its products as reinforcing material, or named glass fiber reinforced plastic, which is different from tempered glass.
FRP is a kind of composite material which with glass fiber and its products (glass cloth, tape, felt, yarn, etc.) as reinforcing material, with synthetic resin as matrix material. Fiber reinforced composite material are composed of reinforced fibers and matrix. The diameter of fiber (or whisker) is very small, which is generally less than 10 μm; the defect is less and smaller; the fracture strain is within 30 per thousand; it is brittle material, easy to be damaged, fracture and corroded. The matrix is much lower in strength and modulus than in fiber, but it can withstand large strain, always with viscoelastic and elastic-plastic materials, and it is ductile material.
